It consists of:
  • 61 elected members
  • 11 members by law, without the right of vote
  • 4 members by law, without the right of vote (elected by the BOD)
  • 4 honorary members

Board of Directors

1.  The BOD’s members are elected by the Chamber’s member businesses who have paid all their subscriptions with the process of elections that take place every four years at a date between November 15th and December 15th. The process of election for the Board of Directors is provisioned at article 3c.

2.  The number of the Chambers’ BOD members is designated as follows:

α. For chambers with up to 15.000 members, 21 members.

β. For chambers with more than 15.001 members, 31 members.

The BOD of Chambersof Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Cycladesand Dodecanese especially, elect 61 members. The number of each Department’s representatives at the BOD is determined by decision of the Minister of Development, after receiving the opinion of the BOD, based on objective criteria such as the number of each Department’s members, their contribution to the local and national economy and the employment positions filled by their operations.

3.    The newBOD assumes its rolewithin ten (10) days fromthe date of issuanceof the supervisory committee’s decision, with which, it announces the elected members. The assumption of duty according to the previous quotation cannot be prevented by the submission of objections regarding the validity of the process or the election of a specific member of the board.

 

4.   The BODdiscusses the most importantmatters of commerce, alterationand services, it awardshonorary distinctions regarding thesematters, approves the budgetand the statement ofaccounts, it abolishes the administrative committee or any of its members, with a majority decision of four fifths (4/5) of its members, and it decides on each subject related to the chamber’s activities.

 

5.    The BOD’s meetings arechaired by the Presidentof the Administrative Committee, they take place publiclyand in extraordinary caseswithout publicity, at monthly intervals except the month of August, and capitally if so asked by two fifths (2/5) of its members. Each member ofthe BOD, since theday of his/herelection must procure for the progress of the national economy and not only for the interests of his/her class or category.  

 

6.  By decisionof the Minister ofDevelopment, which is issuedafter a proposal fromthe CentralUnionof Chambers, the commonregulation for the jurisdictionand operations of the Chambers’ BOD is approved. The BOD can, witha decision that itpublishes to the Gazette, transfer a part of its jurisdictions to the Administrative Committee.

The aforementioned transfer is valid until it is revoked.

 

The BOD legally convenes only if half plus one elected members are present and if a reiterative session takes place, with the presence of one third (1/3) of its elected members, while its decisions are made with the absolute majority of the present members. At the BOD’s meetings, apart from the persons mentioned in paragraph 4 article 1, the administrative supervisor, the supervisors of the various directorates and the representative of the Chamber’s employees’ union also participate, without the right of vote. Finally, the BOD sets the goals and the operational conditions of the E.T.A.P. (Association of Development and Progress) which is auxiliary to its work.
